I have been lucky enough to be one of Nicol’s closest friends for a long time now. She is one of the kindest, most giving people I have ever met. Many people could be described this way but Nicol truly embodies a generosity and a warmth that comes around as often as a Halloween Blue Moon. And, if you live in Bozeman, the odds are pretty good you’ve also been fortunate enough to have been graced by her presence at one time or another.
Walking to breakfast downtown or going to the gym is not a simple or quick task when you’re with Nicol. Inevitably she runs into someone she knows and it’s never just a casual “hey” or Montana head nod that gets exchanged. Pretty soon it’s been more than a few minutes and you’re getting to know yet another great friend of Nicol’s. Eventually, as you and this new acquaintance part ways, you’re both probably thinking how lucky you are to be her friend.
I’m so thrilled that she has found Riley, someone who treats her with the kindness and love she shows to so many others. Photographing Riley and Nicol is easy. Not just because they’re my friends but because they genuinely seem happy to spending time with one another as they think about spending the rest of their lives together. They make my job truly enjoyable. While this wasn’t exactly the wedding they had originally planned, it was beautiful and I was honored to be the one asked to capture it. Count me even luckier that we’ll get to do this all again next summer when all the people who love them so much will get to join in on yet another special day.
